Low Down

Music of the Week:

Oh yes, Rod Stewart and his Do Ya Think Im Sexy is definitely one of a different time period; but boy is it a good one.  And that hair; wow, I bet he made and probably even still makes a lot of women jealous with that.

(Side note: my apostrophe and quotation key on my computer does not work.)

Blog of the Week:

Cupcake, a blog obviously centered around cupcakes, offers enough recipes and eye candy to keep your mouth watering for days.  Yuuuummmy!

Quote of the Week:

If you want reality take the bus.  -David LaChapelle

Other Inspiration:

Wow, talk about being creative and putting those beer bottle caps to use.  Have not deciphered if this Bottle Cap Car is disturbing or just simply the result of drinking too much beer; maybe a bit of both.

L.A. Weekly

Music of the Week:

Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues is a classic that can be listened to over and over again.  It is a perfect addition to the must see classic movie A Bronx Tale

Blog of the Week:

This blog has all the celebrity juice you need and then some. I have never really been one to keep up on celebrity gossip; but I figured why not talk about this one in honor of my recent relocation.  Perez Hilton is the man behind this concoction of twisted celebrity news.

Quotes of the Week:

“I was doing something that I thought could have some impact someday. In many ways, it’s really these photographs that kept me going creatively.” —Dennis Hopper

Other Inspiration:

It was a sad day when I found out Dennis Hopper passed away.  Apart from his phenomenal acting in such movies as Easy Rider, he was also an amazing photographer who captured timeless images such as this titled Biker Couple.

Big Changes

Music of the Week:

Have to admit, I am not a huge rap person; but a little Biggie Smalls every now and then doesn’t hurt.  Thought I would pull this out of the vaults as it’s very appropriate for my exciting venture that I will be taking here in a few days, “Going Back to Cali“.

Blog of the Week:

This blog  is one of the very few  where you actually want to read from someone who is ranting and raving.   If you watch the Food Network then there is no doubt you know who Anthony Bourdain is.  He eats great food ,travels, and writes for a living.  How genius of a job is that?

Quote of the Week:

“Have no fear of perfection – you’ll never reach it.”  -Salvador Dali

Other Inspiration:

I don’t mean to sound morbid here, but I really hope that I go out with style in this Mercedes Hearse.  This truly is a one-of-a-kind ride my friends.  I can only imagine what the horn may sound like on that cruiser.

Frizzle

Music of the day:

Every since I walked through my door yesterday to hear “my musician” playing his rendition of “Sea of Love” by Phil Phillips,  I have not been able to get it out of my head.  Catchy, simple, and classic; truly a classic.  If this song doesn’t make you want to have a glass a wine and a slow dance with that “special someone” than I don’t know what will.

Blog of the day:

Wow, this blog has an endless list of female photographers.  The site features one photographer a week and promotes their work.    Each photographer has an etsy shop, (hence the title of the blog: Female Photographers of Etsy).  Hopefully my name will grace the presence of their homepage within the near future.

Quote of the day:

“There is no blue without yellow and without orange.”   -Vincent Van Gogh

Other Inspiration:

I have always been drawn to graffiti art and I can not understand why some people don’t consider this art.  I mean really, would you rather look at a blank wall people?

FRY-DAY

Music of the Day:

Thought I would pay a little homage to the one and only Jim Morrison and The Doors.  After all, it has been a Morrison week in our household with “The Doors” movie being watched every night.  I’m sorry, but I don’t think anyone could look better in leather pants than him.  It’s no wonder that every chick back then wanted him to “light their fire”.

Blog of the Day:

Let’s kick it back old school once again by talking about this blog , which was created by another artistic person that I went to school with.  Check out Callie Giovanna’s photos on here; they are incredible.  (Side note:  Her name rocks.)  Not only are each and every one of her pictures beautiful, Callie is a beautiful and talented individual that has managed to create a blog that will keep me coming back for more.

Quote of the Day:

“There are things known and things unknown and in between are the doors.”     -Jim Morrison

Other Inspiration:

Check out these Chat Cups by Soop Group.  I can think of many ways that this idea is wrong but yet so genius at the same time.

Hump Day

Music of the Day:

Talk about blues; you ain’t heard the blues until you have heard Robert Johnson.  This is the blues my friend; it may not be the blues that you are use to with the modern crap that claims to be blues, but this is it.  You truly feel his blues when you hear this.

Blog of the Day:

Oh, for old times sake, why the heck not?  Here’s a shout out to an old college friend of mine that created this blog.   I am really digging his Design Portfolio; but I must admit, my favorite thing is this photo that he has on here.  Any guesses as to who this could be?   Yes, yes, it is “yours truly”.

Quote of the Day:

“The world makes way for the man who knows where he is going.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“If you want things to be different, perhaps the answer is to become different yourself.”  -Norman Vincent Peale

Other Inspiration:

This has to be one of the most creative ideas I have seen in a long time.  David Stark adds a whole other realm to art with his Post it Project.  What a way to spruce up your home, office, or even the restaurant bathroom stall for that matter.  I can hardly sit still; I want make a mad dash to the nearest store for sticky notes.  (Be sure to check out David’s website; it’s a trip in itself.)

Weekly Madness

Music of the Day:

I am not kidding you, I have listened to Simon and Garfunkel’s  “Sound of Silence” at least 30 times this week.  This song has to be one of the most epic ones of all time.  It transports you into another time; and boy do I wish I was back in that time!

Blog of the Day:

Just added this blog to my Google Reader and I can already tell that it’s going to be one of my new daily favs.  There’s a lot of fun and quirky home decorating ideas along with different artsy crafty things you can do.  I can hardly contain myself with the thought of being able to decorate my home.

Quotes of the Day:

““Culture is what remains after we’ve forgotten everything we’ve read.”  -Ortega y Gasset

“Art opens up reality to us, making it deeper, thicker, more surprising.  Art never tells you what you already know.”  -David Hare

Other Inspiration:

Why not plant a Pothole Garden?  That is exactly what Pete Dungey must have been thinking.  This idea is genius, pure genius; unless of course someone decides to run it over.  Which in case people like that should not even be allowed on the road.  “Road Ragers” should just chill out and “stop to smell the flowers”; literally in this case!

Music of the Day:

Phoenix is not only a hot city to live in, it’s a hot city for bands to emerge.  Gospel Claws is a band that’s going to take off in my humble opinion.  This song, “Don’t Let it Die” gets something going inside me time and time again.   (Bare with the video quality; it’s the only live version I could find.)

Blog of the Day:

Thought I would add a little humor to your day with this blog.    I think we can all recall when it was family photo day.  How could you forget having to coordinate your outfits with your family so no one “stuck out” in the photo?  It appears these people may have been going for just the opposite.  Hopefully I won’t  stumble across our photo on here…

Quote of the Day:

“The quality of our packaging is important to us and the information you’ve provided will be helpful in identifying and correcting any possible problems.  Please know that we take these incidents seriously and will follow up promptly with the production facility that filled and distributed the product.”  -Pepsi

Other Inspiration:

Dan Golden ‘s pillow project is not only funny, it’s down right brilliantly hilarious.  (That may not be proper English, but I had to say it.)  Humor on a pillow; it’s the perfect gift to give that hard to buy for unlce of yours.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Hey

Music of the Day:

Had the pleasure of being blown away by this band, the Arctic Monkeys, a couple of nights ago.  They traveled all the way from their hometown in England to put on one heck of a show.  These young guys have their act together and really know how to produce some well respected music and lyrics.  And to top it off, they are from England, so they do have the British accent…need I say more?

Blog of the Day:

Letterheady is a blog that focuses on the design of the letter opposed to the content itself.  I like what these people have done by taking letterhead to the next step with their innovative designs.  Who knew letterhead could be so exciting?

Quotes of the Day:

“Don’t gain the world and lose your soul, wisdom is better than silver or gold…” -Bob Marley

“I wish that all of nature’s magnificence, the emotion of the land, the living energy of place could be photographed.”  -Annie Leibovitz

Other Inspiration:

May just have to upgrade my 50 year old stylish bike to one of these puppies designed by Note Design Studios.  After all, it looks the same as the bike I have now.  It might even ride a little smoother than mine.

Music of the Day:

Wow, if Richie Havens doesn’t get you going, then I’m sorry, but I don’t know if anything will.  Richie Havens was one of the profound performers of Woodstock and managed to blow the crowd away so much that they kept him playing until he ran out of songs to play.  I had the pleasure of seeing him perform a little while back and let me tell, the man can play the guitar today just as he did back then.  Be prepared to get blown away by his voice and guitar playing.

Blog of the Day:

Yuck, we all remember school lunches.  Well this blog captures the all too familiar and repulsive lunches that are being served to kids.  I guarantee after seeing this, if you have a child, you will be sure to pack a lunch for them from here on out.

Quote of the Day:

“The unreal is more powerful than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. because its only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. stone crumbles. wood rots. people, well, they die. but things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on.”  -Chuck Palahniuk

Other Inspiration:

Check out this Moonwatch by Emotion Lab.  It was created to give us a better understanding of both time and life by establishing a relationship between a person’s emotional states and the moon cycle.   I don’t know about you, but after looking at this, I’m ready for another full moon.
