Music of the Day:

Wow, if Richie Havens doesn’t get you going, then I’m sorry, but I don’t know if anything will.  Richie Havens was one of the profound performers of Woodstock and managed to blow the crowd away so much that they kept him playing until he ran out of songs to play.  I had the pleasure of seeing him perform a little while back and let me tell, the man can play the guitar today just as he did back then.  Be prepared to get blown away by his voice and guitar playing.

Blog of the Day:

Yuck, we all remember school lunches.  Well this blog captures the all too familiar and repulsive lunches that are being served to kids.  I guarantee after seeing this, if you have a child, you will be sure to pack a lunch for them from here on out.

Quote of the Day:

“The unreal is more powerful than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. because its only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. stone crumbles. wood rots. people, well, they die. but things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on.”  -Chuck Palahniuk

Check out this Moonwatch by Emotion Lab.  It was created to give us a better understanding of both time and life by establishing a relationship between a person’s emotional states and the moon cycle.   I don’t know about you, but after looking at this, I’m ready for another full moon.

Gooood Friday…

Per suggestion from a good friend of mine,  I have decided to change the format of my blog.  Don’t worry, the same great content will still be here.  And as always, I am open to any suggestions that you may have to make this blog more enjoyable and interesting for you.  After all, this blog is for you my fellow readers.

Not only is Phoenix the city great, but Phoenix the band is even better.  “Lisztomania” is the type of a song you will listen to over and over and over and still want to hear it even more.

Blog of the Day:

Wow…stumbled across Guidespot which had these amazing photos of abandoned and decaying buildings.  I have rarely seen photos of this stature before.  Mad props to the photographer that took these.

I have my awesome friend Jilly G. to thank for this find.  There is something very special about this song, “Ring Ring” by Sleigh Bells.  I have listened to it at least 5 times at work today and it just gets better and better every time.  Any song that has the ability to do that is a sure keeper in my book.  “Have a heart, have a heart” and listen…

Blog of the Day:

Bliss, Bliss, this blog stands by it’s name and is simply pure Bliss.  Once again I am drawn in by the beautiful photos and unique subject matter.  When I come across blogs such as this it sparks my creativity and gives me encouragement as an artist.  What artist out there wouldn’t want that?

Other Inspiration:

I’m a “Holga Girl at Heart” so I instantly fell in love with this camera the moment I laid eyes on it.  Or should I say, the moment we laid eyes on eachother? Haha! Okay, not really that funny.  Anyway, this site has loads of fun filled cameras on it.  They actually partnered up and are doing a give-a-way right now so keep your fingers crossed for me!

Blog of the Day:

Wow, the creator of this blog, Pia, has it all and then some.    She’s an  internationally acclaimed stylist, photographer and author specializing in interiors, still life & food. As a stylist she has worked around the world for the likes of Vogue Entertaining + Travel, Gourmet Traveller, Real Simple, Saatchi and Saatchi, Tommy Hilfiger and Philips. Today she is the author and photographer of Paris: Made by Hand, the soon to be released Amsterdam: Made by Hand (June 2010), as well as the much-anticipated My Heart Wanders (2011). (This info was pulled from her site.)  To top it off, she manages to have a kick ass blog and she splits up her living time between Sydney, Paris, and Amsterdam where she lives in a houseboat…jealous; I defiinitely am!  Way to go Pia, I’m taking notes from you my friend.

Oh, how I miss you! I had a Polaroid Camera and can’t seem to find it.  I have had the urge lately to use it, and I think it got “misplaced” while moving.  I have been searching online and it seems as though the one I purchased is hard to come by now.  Someone, anyone, please help me get ahold of one!  I need to feed my creativity, and fast!  And what a bummer that Polaroid  stop producing the film for it!  Obviously digital is cheaper, but come on people, it’s like taking candy from a baby!

Wow, Otis Redding…I think you’ve stolen my heart.  This man’s voice was just so incredibly powerful.  I would have loved to see him perform back in the day.  You can tell his energy just illuminated everywhere.  So tragic that he died right in the height of his career.  He is truly a legend that will forever be remembered.

Blog of the Day:

Indexed is a blog that lets you think more relationally without having to do actual math.  Since I am not much of a math person what-so-ever, I immediately took a liking to this creative approach of viewing things.    I just love all the different little charts that Jessica has come up with.  Take a gander, see what you think…

I must have been living under a rock for quite some time to have not heard of this awesome band, Dead Moon.  Wow, am I really digging them right now!  Unfortunately the band has disassembled; but two of the former members went on to start another band, Pierced Arrows  .   To my luck, they are playing here in a couple of months and I can hardly contain myself.  Rock on!

Blog of the Day:

Stumbled across another magnificant blog site.  It appears that Vic, who is also a photographer, left me my first blog comment a couple days ago after I prused his site.  Thank you Vic!  And for those of you who have not done so yet, I am giving you this one chance to redeem yourselves, RIGHT NOW!  Anyway, the photos and subject matters on his site are everything to write home about and more.  So “thank you Vic” for gracing us with your beautiful blog.

An Horse, not be confused with a horse, is an Australian duo which has a sound that reminds me of Teegan and Sarah, which is why I like them.  It appears they have made quite the name for themselves having been on the David Letterman show and touring all over the world.

Blog of the Day:

I can’t even begin to express how much I have fallen in love with the Design For Mankind blog.  I have literally been stuck to the computer screen reading their Dailies section which consists of them following artists/designers on an average day, morning to night.  Wow, how inspiring to see people out in the art world really making it and managing to create these incredible lives surging with art, family, and fun.  It definitely gives me hope and encouragement coming from an artist’s standpoint and longing for a life like that.  After seeing it though, I truly feel my time will come!

Other Inspiration:

I stumbled across this great print inside a coffee shop in San Diego.  I dig everything about it and wish I could have taken it home…maybe next time.

Music of the Day:

I must admit, I heard a local band that really rocked my world the other night.  I attended a show at the infamous Big Fish Pub in Tempe, AZ, home to ASU.  I didn’t know what to expect of the lineup that was scheduled.   As a music lover my expectations are what I consider to be fairly higher than most people’s.  The band, “Yesterday’s Promise“,  really seemed to hold their own.  Way to go guys; you may just see me at another one of your shows.

Blog of the Day:

We all have secrets, right?  Well this brilliantly created blog site anonymously posts people’s secrets that they mail in on the back of a postcard.  Have you been holding in something lately and are just dying to get it out?  No fear, create a purty poscard and seal it with a stamp.  Chances are, you may feel better getting it off your chest; and you never know, you may even be feautured on their site.

Other Inspiration:

You know, this is only the second time that I have posted one of my very own photos.  Kind of surprising since I consider myself to be a photographer; but I specificially didn’t want this blog to be plastered with only my work.   I like sharing other’s peope unique twist on art whether it be with clothes, photos, paintings, furniture, you name it.  Today though, I just felt like sharing one of my own with you.  This is “My Path” that I take home riding my bike from work.

It was only a matter of time before I would mention this upcoming band known as “Manzania”.  No, I’m not only promoting it because I live with the lead singer/songwriter/guitarist.  They are actually an extremely talented duo that should be given credit for their unique style and dedication.  So watch out world, here they come!

Blog of the Day:

I was excited to discover that  my friend Bekah had created this blog called Bekahsphere.  Her photos are truly inspiring pieces of art.  Bekah is someone that I spent a lot of time with and have many fond memories of.  Our California days will forever tie us together and included many long nights doing homework, listening to music, attending shows, and being young at heart!  Keep it up Bekah, my good ole’ Brooks Institute mate.  “It’s ciggy time!”

Other Inspiration:

Thinking of my friend Bekah made me think of her father, Simon Bull,  as well.  His paintings capture everything that I like in a piece of artwork, great subject matter and splashes of vibrant color.  I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Bull and he truly is just as kindhearted as he is talented.
